Saint Rita College- Manila started in 1907 as "Escuela de Santa Rita" offering free education to the 30 Kindergarten students who were all girls. Reverend Father Celestino Yolde, a Recollect priest, prescribed a well defined and delianeted program of education on reading, writing, spaninsh, language, religion, music, painting, and embroidery with spanish as the medium of instruction. Classes were given formally by the Augustinian Recollect Sisters as teachers. The following year (1908) found the school embarking a gradual progress. The school building was constructed and with the approval of the Bureau of Private Schools, classes were opened. Thus, it started the Formal Education Apostolate of the Augustinian Recollect Sisters.

In the year1911, the School was registered in the Bureau of Education as "Colegio de Santa Rita," offering primary and intermediate classes. In the following year (1912), at the request of several families and with the aid of an effecient American educator, English was included in the program of instruction and it became the medium of teaching. The school was renamed "St. Rita Academy" in 1921. The government recognition was granted the year after (1920) for the primary and intermediate courses of the Elementary Level. Domestic Science was offered in 1932 and in 1945 the school was named "Saint Rita College." The General Secondary Course was given governement recognition in 1946 and the first commencement exercises were held with Hon. Judge Jose Abad Santos of the Supreme court as the Guest of Honor.

College programs were offered like the Elementary Teachers Certificate (ETC) and some vocational courses in 1948. Then, in June 1955 the four Ė year Collegiate Normal Course leading to Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education was opened and granted government recognition. Four years later, Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Liberal Arts were opened with approved government recognition in 1972. These programs have the following areas of concentration: English, Filipino, Mathematics, History, and Home Economics with minor specialization in Theology, Library Science, and Physical Education.

The fast advancement paved the way of offering Computer Science Course in the Secondary and Tertiary Levels in 1994. It was also that year when the Associate in Hotel restaurant Management, a two-year college program was opened.

However, it has its moratorium state March 2002. Giving a wider horizon on her service to her countrymen, Saint Rita College-Manila opened doors to young boys who sou8ght Catholic Education in the year 2002. To keep abreast to the demands of standardization of education, both Elementary and High School Departments prepare for the rigors of standardization by voluntary accreditation in 2006. The integrated Basic Education Department was granted Level I Accreditation Status for three years by prescribed by the Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines (FAAP) as it has passed the requirements prescribed by the prestigious accrediting agency, the Philippine Accreditation of Schools, Colleges, and Universities (PAASCU) on May 18, 2007. It was a year of grace, for similarly, the school has turned 100 men and women who have become effective instruments in the spiritual and cultural progress of the society here and abroad. With Godís grace, the Ritarians are now making their presence known as a morally conscious group in the different sectors of society and government. These Ritarians celebrated their Alma Materís 100th year with the theme ďLove to Come Home.Ē

Saint Rita College-Manila has sustained, being a standardize learning institution and was granted by the same accrediting agency a Level II Re-Accreditation Status for Five years on June 28, 2010. It continues to share the teaching mission of the Church with its thrust on evangelization through Catholic Education of the youth. It strives to be relevant to the needs of the time by preparing the youth for Christ-like living and inculcate gospel values and development of a good Filipino based on abiding faith in God and genuine love of country. It experiences ups and downs of enrolment and financial instability, yet with Godís grace amidst the several attempts for searching what is best for the learners in the Department of Education. In the same manner, its search will always be in the context of the integral development of its stakeholders taking evangelization as its flagship program.
